Constable: Court Orders Closure of Franklin Rogers Men’s Clothing Store

The long-time downtown Providence men’s clothing store Franklin Rogers, which has been closed since June, has now been hit with a court judgment.

On the front door of the shop is a posting from a Rhode Island Constable, “In accordance with Rhode Island District Court Case #6CA 2023-09594, this property is closed and nobody is allowed to enter without RI Constable Ken Norigan’s permission.”

The lawsuit and then the corresponding judgment were the result of a lawsuit by the landlord against the clothing store.

The landlord is Lauderdale Associates, LLC — a company managed by the businessman William Piccerelli, who controls the LLC that owns the Westminster Street building. Lauderdale Associated has secured a court-ordered judgment of $65,444.73.

In addition, the court held an eviction hearing.

Store Closed in June, But One of the Owners Died in April

One of the longtime owners, Roger Lee Gross, died in April at the age of 77. He ran the business for 35 years.

The business is directly across from the Superman Building -- the structure has been vacant for over a decade.

The store has been a downtown mainstay to buy a suit or tuxedos for a wedding. It has been the last remaining men’s store in the Financial District.

Franklin Rogers' website is no longer operating, and its social media has not been updated in months.

No one has returned GoLocal's phone calls and social media inquiries.
