Hurricane Irene is over but we still have to deal with the aftermath clean up. Not only do we have to pick up the debris in our yards and assess the damage to our homes, many of us have to manage our daily activities without power. Getting ready for work can certainly be a challenge without power. Here are some tips that can help you maintain a polished and professional image.

If you can’t iron or steam your outfit due to a power outage then hang your clothes in the bathroom while you take a hot shower. The steam from the shower will remove the wrinkles from your clothes.

If you can’t blow dry your hair, then either pull it back into a sleek pony tail or if you are fortunate to have curly hair, let it dry naturally but add some hair products to ensure a controlled look. Guys are lucky- they don’t have the same challenges when it comes to hair grooming.

Wear a color that flatters and highlights your natural coloring. Blues and plums look good on virtually every complexion.

Focus on the other details of your appearance like your make up, nails, accessories and shoes. Use a bit more mascara to emphasize your eyes. Add a colorful scarf, earring or paint your nails a fashionable yet professional color. Concentrating on other details takes the focus off of your hair.

Purchase an umbrella that truly complements your style. Avoid anything too cutesy or novelty. Replace it when it starts showing wear and tear.

Buy a tote bag made of weather resistant material. This way you don’t have to worry about ruining your nice leather handbag or tote yet you will still look pulled other.
