Save the Bay Swim Features 200 Participants, Portion of Bay to Be Closed Saturday

More than 200 swimmers participating in Save The Bay’s 46th annual Swim will swim across Narragansett Bay this Saturday, August 6 in the nonprofit organization’s biggest fundraising event of the year. 

Portions of the East Passage of Narragansett Bay between Gould Island and Conanicut (Jamestown), and extending to Pell Newport Bridge, will be temporarily closed to vessel traffic on Saturday, August 6 between 7:30 a.m. and 10:20 a.m. for the Save The Bay Swim.

Vessel traffic may pass on the west side of Jamestown.

Saturday, August 6, 2022

5:15-7:30 a.m. – Swimmers and kayakers check in at the Naval War College in Newport
7:45-8 a.m. – Opening remarks by Elizabeth Beisel and safety briefing
8:10 a.m. – The first wave of swimmers departs from the starting line
8:15 a.m. – The second, and final, wave departs from the starting line
8:30 a.m. – Swimmers begin arriving at the finish line in Potter Cove, Jamestown
9:15-9:30 a.m. – Final swimmers reach the finish line
8:30-11 a.m. – Post-swim celebration takes place

Starting Line: Naval War College, Newport
Finish Line: Potter Cove, Jamestown
Post-event Celebration: Rhode Island Turnpike & Bridge Authority Lawn
