Big Need for Volunteers

There are two critical needs for volunteers this morning - helping with nurising home evacuations and damage assessment, according to Serve Rhode Island's Executive Director, Bernie Beaudreau.

"Yesterday over 4,000 people called the 2-1-1 emergency help line. There are many needs.  We have two major needs, Damage Assessment & Sheltering Nursing Home Evacuees," said Beaudreau in a statement.

Specifically, Serve Rhode Island needs:

1. Damage Assessment: We have been asked to provide two shifts of 10 volunteers each to return phone calls to assess the needs and damage sustained by the storm.

Two shifts of phonebank volunteers are needed for tomorrow, Monday, August 29:
12:00 PM to 4:00 PM &
4:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Location: United Way of RI, 50 Valley Street, Providence, RI 02909.

2. Shelter Volunteers for Nursing Home Evacuees: The RI Health Department has begun to evacuate nursing and elderly homes due to the loss of power and water. Volunteers will be needed beginning today.
