“Heavy Snow, Strong Winds, Coastal Flooding” — Latest Scenarios for Winter Storm Expected to Hit RI

AccuWeather forecasters say snow lovers in New England “have a reason to rejoice as the prospects for a major snowstorm are high during the last weekend of January.”

There is every indication that a storm will develop and strengthen off the southern Atlantic coast late this week, says AccuWeather.

They add that the storm could intensify enough from Friday to Saturday to be classified as a bomb cyclone as it moves northward toward New England.

According to the National Weather Service “Hazardous Weather Outlook” on Wednesday, the winter storm is expected to bring “heavy snow, strong winds, coastal flooding and dangerous seas” to the region. 

"Intensity will determine the exact impacts," NWS adds.
