TMZ is reporting that Leno said Union is a “great girl," after she had wanted to file the complaint -- and has since been let go from the show.

"I love Gabrielle Union. She's a great girl. I really enjoyed working with her," Leno said video obtained by TMZ. "She's really good."

When asked if she was treated fairly on the popular summer series, he responded, " I don't know…but I think she's a great girl."

According to TMZ:

Jay Leno's trying like hell to put a positive spin on the firestorm around Gabrielle Union's 'AGT' firing and his role in it, but for the most part ... he's at a loss for words.

Leno was asked point-blank Sunday night about Gabrielle calling him out to 'AGT' producers for making a joke about Koreans eating dog.

On his way out of the Comedy and Magic Club in Hermosa Beach, CA ... Jay would only say he enjoyed working with Gabrielle, and she's a "great girl."

As for Gabrielle, and others, labeling his joke racist ... Jay pleaded the Fifth, but in his own unique way.

Simon Cowell’s Company Weighs In

On Sunday, People reported, "Simon Cowell's Company Breaks Silence on Gabrielle Union's AGT Firing."

"Simon Cowell‘s company is speaking out about Gabrielle Union‘s grievances with America’s Got Talent during her one-season run on the NBC talent competition show," reported People.

In the wake of the actress’ unexpected firing from AGT, Syco Entertainment, which produces AGT, released a joint statement with NBC and production company Fremantle on Sunday. “We remain committed to ensuring a respectful workplace for all employees and take very seriously any questions about workplace culture,” said the statement, obtained by PEOPLE.

About Leno's Newport Home:

As Sotheby's wrote in 2013 when the home was first put on the market:

Once in a lifetime opportunity to own the main residence at iconic ‘Seafair'. Surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean, this Louis XIV chateau was designed with an elegant crescent shape to compliment the curve in the peninsula it sits on and create 270-degree ocean views. The estate has undergone a complete restoration and renovation. A grand gated entry provides ample privacy and the long curving driveway creates a spectacular approach to the motor court with fountain and statuary.

Set on just under 9 manicured acres, the grounds include walled gardens, expansive terraces overlooking the ocean, fountains, ample landscape lighting, a private beach, tennis court, and vegetable garden.

Seafair's legacy includes such owners as the wealthy socialite Betty Blake, as featured in PaperCity Magazine:

Seafair, as it was known, earned the nickname Hurricane Hut, since its exposure to the sea made it particularly vulnerable. Ignoring pleas to evacuate, Betty rode out many hurricanes in her Seafair fortress — but, on one occasion, some of her servants drowned trying to leave. During a particularly violent siege, waves ripped away a large sculpture in the front yard, only to wash it back up many years later.
