MA Officials Celebrate $1.72 Billion in Funding to Replace Cape Cod Bridges

On Tuesday, Senators Elizabeth Warren and Ed Markey, Congressman Bill Keating, and Governor Maura Healey will hold a press conference to celebrate the news that Massachusetts has secured a total of $1.72 billion for the replacement of the Cape Cod bridges.

This event is in response to last week’s announcement that Massachusetts was awarded nearly $1 billion from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law’s Bridge Investment Program (BIP). This builds on the previously won $372 million from the federal Multimodal Project Discretionary Grant program, in addition to $350 million secured by the congressional delegation from FY24 appropriations. Governor Healey has also committed $700 million in state funds to the project.

The Commonwealth’s event starkly contrasts the recent announcement by Rhode Island Governor Dan McKee that the state’s efforts to replace I-195 Westbound’s Washington Bridge will be delayed by months or longer as no companies responded to the state's request for proposal.

It begins at 11 AM at the Sagamore Recreation Area, 404a Canal Service Rd, Sagamore Beach, and will be live-streamed at mass.gov/governorlive.
