Police say they responded to 148 Pavillion Bar South Providence shortly before 3 AM Saturday morning. The bar's license requires a 1 AM closing.

Upon arrival, police said they met with the victim — a male in his 20s — who was bleeding from an apparent stab wound to his back.

The victim told police that he had gotten into a verbal altercation with an unknown male at the bar before the fight spilled outside, at which point he was stabbed.

The bar's website says, "148" is a classy place where you can kick-back and relax and enjoy great drinks and good company, "where strangers become friends and friends become family."

Police say the victim was taken by rescue to Rhode Island Hospital for treatment.

148 Pavillion's owners were forced to appear for an emergency hearing at the Board of Licenses on Saturday.

Providence officials ordered the bar to remain closed for 72 hours by the Board of Licenses. An emergency show cause hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.
