Bill Cosby to be Released From Prison After Court Overturns Sex Assault Conviction

The court ruled that an agreement Cosby struck to provide testimony in a civil lawsuit in 2005 and 2006 should have given him immunity in the case.
Cosby, 83, had served more than two years of a three-to-10-year sentence at a state prison near Philadelphia.

“Why it matters,” reports Axios. “The 83-year-old Cosby, who was sentenced to three to 10 years in prison, will be a free man.”
Cosby's Charges
He has been accused of sexual misconduct or rape by more than 60 women, but none of the other allegations have resulted in criminal charges.
Charges had filed against Cosby in late 2015 — just days before the 12-year statute of limitations expired. He was convicted in 2018 at his second trial, after a first trial ended in a hung jury.
“He had refused to offer any remorse over the encounter with the Temple University employee, vowing instead to serve all 10 years of the sentence,” reported the New York Post.
