The study—produced by scholars with the Eisenhower Research Project at Brown University’s Watson Institute for International Studies—counts the total number of U.S. military personnel, contractors and civilians who have lost their lives in the conflict. It estimates the total cost to be between $3.2 trillion and $4 trillion, including the cost of medical care.

If the conflicts continue at the current pace, the United States will spend an additional $450 billion by 2020.
