NEW: Flood Watch Issued for Rhode Island Starting Friday

The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for Rhode Island.

The flood watch goes into effect at 1 a.m. on Friday, December 21 and remains in effect until Saturday, December 22 at 1 a.m.

“A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop,” says the National Weather Service.

The weather service projects that Rhode Island could see anywhere from one to three inches of rain starting on Friday.

...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM LATE TONIGHT THROUGH LATE

FRIDAY NIGHT...

 

The Flood Watch continues for

 

* Portions of northern Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode

  Island, including the following areas, in northern

  Connecticut, Hartford, Tolland, and Windham. In Massachusetts,

  Bristol, Essex, Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire, Middlesex,

  Norfolk, Plymouth, Suffolk, and Worcester. In Rhode Island,

  Bristol, Kent, Newport, Providence, and Washington.

 

* From late tonight through late Friday night

 

* Periods of moderate to heavy rainfall are expected to impact all

  of Southern New England starting late tonight through Friday.

  Widespread 1 to 3 inches of rain is expected with localized

  higher amounts. This, together with already saturated soils will

  lead to potential for minor to moderate small stream and river

  flooding. Significant urban and poor drainage flooding is also

  possible.
