NEW: Weekend Storm Will Last Longer But Be Weaker in RI

Data coming in overnight indicates that this upcoming storm will last a bit longer but likely be much weaker than earlier anticipated.

Light, spotty rain and snow should get underway later today and probably extend off and on through tonight into Sunday. Then as it turns somewhat colder I expect off and on snow from later Sunday into Sunday night or early Monday.

Accumulations lower

It now looks like accumulations will be much lower than earlier forecast. Early in the storm, during the snow/rain phase, look for wet roads or small, slushy accumulations of 2” or less especially over higher elevations and away from the coast. When it switches to all snow later Sunday another 1”-3” may accumulate. So when all is said and done early Monday total storm accumulations will be generally a few inches or less. And that’s not taking into account any melting that may occur.

So you can see this is a nightmare of a “storm” to try to get a handle on and quite likely there will be more forecast changes over the next couple of days. So, as they say, “stay tuned”.
