Providence Launches Overflow Trash Bag Program

Overflow trash bag program launched in Providence
The City of Providence has launched an overflow trash bag program offering residents official excess trash bags for purchase at local businesses in the city.

“We want residents to enjoy their holiday while ensuring we are continuing to recycle right. We know trash volumes increase this time of year and so does the risk of contamination. By partnering with local businesses to address the needs of residents, we are actively engaging the community in a solution that works for everyone,” said Mayor Jorge Elorza.

According to the press release, the City has also reduced its contaminated monthly residential recycling loads by 50% since 2015 and is on track to meet its goal of zero contaminated recycling loads and a 30% residential recycling rate by 2030.
