Providence Ranked as 7th Worst for Driving in U.S. Out of 200 Cities

Providence is ranked as the 7th worst city for driving in U.S.
Providence is ranked as one of the worst cities in the U.S. for safe driving. 

According to Allstate's 2017 Best Drivers Report, Providence is the 7th worst city for driving in the U.S., ranking 194th overall. This marks the second straight year that Providence has ranked 194th. 

“From always buckling up to never texting behind the wheel, there are many ways people across the nation practice safe driving habits. With its annual report, Allstate hopes to encourage Americans to be safer, smarter drivers,” said Allstate.

Providence was not the only New England city to fair poorly in this year’s report. Worcester, Massachusetts, Boston, Massachusetts, Springfield, Massachusetts, and New Haven, Connecticut, all placed in the top ten worst cities.

Providence Data:

  • 5.7 - Years between claims
  • 8 - Years between claims in Suburban Metro Area
  • 19.8 - Hard-braking events per 1,000 miles
  • 13.7 - Hard braking events per 1,000 miles in Suburban Metro Area

 

The Rankings

Providence ranks behind New Haven, Connecticut and Los Angeles, California who rank 192nd and 193rd respectively. Providence ranks ahead of Glendale, California and Springfield, Massachusetts, who rank 195th and 196th respectively.

Kansas City, Kansas has been ranked as the city with the safest drivers, while Boston, Massachusetts is ranked as the city with the worst.

Allstate Best Drivers Report

The Allstate America's Best Drivers Report is an annual ranking that identifies which of the 200 largest U.S. cities and their surrounding suburban metropolitan areas have the safest drivers.

The report uses company claims data to analyze collision frequency in America’s 200 largest cities and reveal which ones have the safest drivers.

The report also uses Allstate’s Drivewise offering to analyze the correlation between collisions and hard-braking events.
