Trevor Jay Stoutenburgh Dies

Trevor Jay Stoutenburgh passed from this earth to the heavens on February 17th, 2024, and the world will never be the same. He was born at South County Hospital in Rhode Island on March 8th, 1989. He was a graduate of South Kingstown High School and The City College of New York, where he earned a degree in American Literature. Trevor spent a year as a volunteer for AmeriCorps, working to rebuild the communities devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

 

Trevor grew up in Wakefield skateboarding with his friends at OMF Skate Park, playing in the SK Little League and spending summers swimming and enjoying life on Narragansett Beach and at Camp Fuller on Salt Pond. His friendships spanned far and wide.

While attending college in Harlem, he lived in New York City, working as a server at Patsy’s Italian Restaurant and selling gourmet pickles at local farmers markets. He spent several months traveling across the United States hiking, camping and enjoying the beauty of nature. He then arrived in Oregon and lived in Williams among many dear friends. Eventually, he returned to Rhode Island and was currently living in Providence. He worked as a carpenter with his longtime friend Luke O’Malley before taking a position as the sales manager for Seafresh USA in North Kingstown, Rhode Island. He had recently completed the process for becoming a mentor for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence.

 

Trevor loved to spend his free time skateboarding, snowboarding, hiking, watching movies, listening to music, reading books and fawning over his beloved dog Joey. He collected vintage clothing, textiles and books. He was a devoted friend who would and did go to the ends of the earth to help those he loved and even those he only liked. He treasured his relationships with his family and friends and always made time to let the people in his life know how much he loved and valued them. He could not resist a lively debate over politics or cultural issues, and he was a formidable opponent. He was insanely funny and irreverent. He was charismatic, engaging, warm and courageous. Trevor was known for walking on the edge of life and pushing boundaries. He was a good and decent human being.

 

Trevor is survived by his parents Susan (Loud) Stoutenburgh and Dale Stoutenburgh of Wakefield, his brother Brad Stoutenburgh of New York, his sister Katharine Gouin and her husband Dr. Brendan Gouin, and his only and most favorite nephew, Austin Gouin. He was the grandson of the late Shirley and Richard Loud of Narragansett and Grace and Harold Stoutenburgh of Cleveland, Ohio. He leaves behind many aunts and uncles, as well as his beloved cousins and their children. Trevor was a bright light in a family that loved him with all their hearts. In addition to his biological family, he leaves behind his chosen brothers Luke O’Malley, Pete Conopask, Tim O’Neill, Carl Magliochetti, Jimmy Bold, Crawford George, Sam Tucker, Chris Roderick, Grey Kammerer, Justin Bolton, Ethan Miller and countless others whom he considered his favorite people on earth – you all know who you are.

 

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:15 am on Saturday, February 24th, 2024, at Christ the King Catholic Church on Old North Road in Kingston, Rhode Island. Calling hours will be held at Avery-Storti Funeral Home on Friday, February 23rd, 2024, from 4:00 – 7:00 pm on Columbia Street in Wakefield, Rhode Island. Please join us to celebrate the life of this truly unique and wonderful man. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence or the Point Judith Fisherman’s Scholarship Fund are welcome.
