Flawed Political Polls Do "Disservice" To Voters, Says Cook Report's Duffy

Jennifer Duffy, Cook report
Following the release of "new data" by a national polling group that showed Governor Gina Raimondo's approval numbers are "surging," Jennifer Duffy of the Cook Report warned that the poll's methodology -- and flawed polls -- do a "disservice" to voters.

Duffy, a native Rhode Islander who appears regularly on Meet the Press and was named by  BusinessInsider.com as one of the 13 savviest political analysts in the country, appeared with GoLocal's Kate Nagle on GoLocal LIVE on Wednesday, following the release of governors' approval ratings by Morning Consult -- that local news organizations in the state reported on as fact.

Citing the poll's methodology of using purely online outreach -- not the traditional land line, or even cell phone and online hybrid approaches -- and the length of time in which the polling was conducted, Duffy told GoLocal that the poll results could not be considered valid -- and that the lack of consistent, reputable polling oftentimes comes down to cost.
