Former Massachusetts Governor Weld Endorses Jones for NK School Committee

Former MA Governor Bill Weld
Former Massachusetts Governor Bill Weld endorsed Tony Jones for the North Kingstown School Committee. Weld was a Republican Governor, but in 2016, he ran as the Vice Presidential nominee of the Libertarian Party.

In a message to his supporters, Weld now the Chairman of Freedom for America issued an official endorsement of Jones.

Weld writes:

"As Governor of Massachusetts I made education reform a key goal. Tony Jones, a candidate for School Committee in Rhode Island, will change things for the better. His focus on improving access to Vocational and Technical Schools, as well as Charter school options, will do great things for the educational system in his area. I proudly endorse Tony Jones for School Committee."

Over the summer, the North Kingstown Town Council voted unanimously to appoint Jones to a School Committee vacancy (Jones had already declared his candidacy for the position in the upcoming election.)

This made Jones the first ever Moderate to hold public office in the party's 11-year history.

Jones says that he is "humbled and honored" by the Weld endorsement and that he is "looking forward to seeking the advice and knowledge of Mr. Weld when it comes to important matters of public policy"
