Bryant back on winning track, 70-68

Bryant's Bulldogs haven't been used to losing much lately, but after losses in five of their last six games, any win would be a good win.

And they got one, in a tight one...beating Lehigh 70-68 Monday night on a put-back lay in by Alex Francis with just two seconds remaining.

Bryant's Corey Maynard scored on a drive to the basket with just over a minute left, putting the Bulldogs up by one at the Chace Athletic Center.  After rebounding a Mountain Hawk miss and getting a Francis free throw to go up by two, Lehigh's Tim Kempton tied the score at 68 to set the stage for Francis' heroics.  Maynard missed a layup with three seconds left, Lehigh's Jesse Chuku tried to save the miss and instead put the ball right into Francis' waiting hands.

The layup with two ticks remaining was the difference.

Francis finished the game with a game high 20 points and team best seven rebounds, while Maynard added 19 points and junior guard Dyami Starks scored 18. Maynard added four assists and six boards to his 9-for-17 performance, as the Bulldogs shot 43.3 percent from the floor.

Lehigh (7-6) was paced by 17 points from Kempton and saw four players finish in double figures. Kempton pulled in a game high 13 rebounds as the Mountain Hawks won the battle on the glass, 39-35...and also shot 50% from three-point range.

With the win, Bryant moves to 8-7 on the season, snapping a two-game losing streak, and enters Northeast Conference play January 9th against Saint Francis at the Chace Athletic Center in Smithfield.
