NEW: Duke & Diallo Lead PC Past South Carolina 76-67, Face #18 Michigan Sunday

Alpha Diallo and the Friars could not beat South Carolina
The Providence College Friars used a second-half rally to beat South Carolina 76-67 in the second semifinal of the Hall of Fame Tip-Off tournament at Mohegan Sun Arena on Saturday afternoon. 

PC advances to take on #18 Michigan on Sunday afternoon. 

The Friars were led by David Duke who poured in a career-high 20 points, and Alpha Diallo who added 17 points, nine rebounds and seven assists.

He also had two steals and a block in the game.

With the win, the Friars improve to 3-1 on the season. 

PC Rallies in 2nd Half

The Friars trailed by nine, 43-34, with 15:36 left to play in the game, before rallying.

Providence got six straight points from freshman AJ Reeves, sparking a 20-6 run.

The run would see Providence take a 54-49 lead following a dunk by freshman Duke with 8:31 to play.

South Carolina would cut PC’s lead to two, 56-54, with just over six minutes to play in the game before Providence would answer.

On PC’s ensuing possession, Duke would convert a three-point play after getting fouled while converting a layup to give the Friars a 59-54 lead.

After getting a stop on defense, Duke would knock down a straightaway three to give the Friars a 62-54 lead.

On South Carolina’s next possession, Diallo would come up with a steal and find Isaiah Jackson for an open three in transition to push PC’s lead to 11, 65-54 with 5:14 left to go.

South Carolina would get as close as seven points, 69-62, with 1:15 to go, but the Friars would hang on for the win.

Next Up

The Friars will now face #18 Michigan in the championship on Sunday.

The Wolverines defeated George Washington 84-61 in the first game on Saturday afternoon.

Game time is set for 1:30 p.m. on ESPN.
