Owls too much for overmatched Rams

The Rams just can’t seem to get on a streak one way or the other.

Despite a 27-point effort from Delroy James, the University of Rhode Island men’s basketball suffered another loss in conference play Saturday, falling to Temple, 80-67, at the Liacouras Center.

Since Jan. 19, the Rams have alternated wins and losses in their last six games, leaving them at 5-4 in the Atlantic 10 and 14-9 overall. Temple remained tied for third in the league with Richmond at 7-2 in the A-10 and 17-5 overall.

James shot 10-of-18 from the floor and 7-of-10 from the free-throw line, but the Owls led throughout most of the afternoon and responded each and every time Rhode Island threatened to slice into its deficit.

Scootie Randall led Temple with 27. Marquis Jones chipped in with 18 for the Rams. James was particularly effective in the second half, at one point scoring 14 consecutive points for Rhode Island to cut Temple’s lead to 10 points in the closing minutes.

The Rams, who have lost two consecutive road games, will return to the Ryan Center for a three-game homestand, beginning with a showdown against Dayton on Wednesday night.
