Wesley Cardet, Jr. PHOTO: FileThe Providence College men’s basketball team fell to the University of Oklahoma 79 to 77.
The Friars led at half-time 34-32. But were tortured by turnovers. On the bright side, the Friars had 9 three-pointers in the first half.
The game ended in chaos and the Friars had a chance to steal the game in the last second but Jayden Pierre missed an open 3-pointer that would have won the game.
The Friars trailed by 7 with 36 seconds to go and kept digging. With less than 3 seconds left and PC trailing by 4, Oklahoma was called for too many men on the court. Pierre hit two free throws, and PC again got the ball because of the violation.
But Pierre’s miss sealed the loss.
The Friars had 16 turnovers, and Pierre had 6 of them. That led to 23 points off the Friars turnovers for the Sooners.
The bright spot for the Friars was a breakout game by Wesley Cardet, Jr., who scored 17 and kept the Friars close in the second half. He finished 6-9 from the field.
Bensley Joseph added 16 for PC before fouling out in the final seconds.
The loss drops the Friars to 5-1.
